Dear Teddy and Pip,

Do you guys remember your siblings and/or moms? Do you ever miss them? My first guinea pig Solomon was really lonely after I bought him at the pet shop. That is, until I got him little Enoch. They never stray far from each other, and if I take one out of the room without the other, the one left behind starts squeaking for his buddy! Guinea pigs really do need friends.

"Hello! This is Teddy speaking, and the answer about remember is not much. Teddy remembers a time, some time ago, before there was a Pip, and then there was a Pip. Yes, that Pip is around all the time and time and time again, and maybe Teddy would feel missing of him if he wasn't. Around. All the time. Thank you for sending mail!" -- Teddy

"PIP SAVES THE DAY! PIP LIVED AT PETSMART AND DID HIS SCREAMING WITH OTHERS, BUT NOW HE IS IN THE PLACE THAT HE IS IN WITH TEDDY AND OTHER BEST FRIENDS. YES, FRIENDS ARE GOOD--HUMAN AND OTHER. THANK YOU AND HAVE A NICE DAY!" -- PIP

Dear Teddy and Pip,

Me and my class are going to make a Tale of Two Guinea Pigs movie and I'm Amelia!

"Hello! This is Teddy speaking to you, and I will say to you firstly that I LOVE AMELIA! You are being a good good best friend by being that Amelia, who I love!"

"PIP, TOO, LOVES AMELIA!"

"Next I will say that a movie about our adventure story sounds very good indeed! Best of times! Woo hoo! Teddy is feeling like a shiny star!"

"PIP IS A ROCK STAR! AND NOW A MOVIE STAR!! PIP IS MORE SHINY!"

"We guinea pigs wish you fun and luck on your movie-making. Molly Jane Fisher knows how to do that and also Max--"

"MAX IS NO GOOD!"

"--so they can help with that stuff. We love you!!!!" -- Teddy and Pip

Dear Teddy and Pip,

Are boy guinea pigs better than girl guinea pigs?

"Hello, friend! This is Teddy speaking, and I must say to you, 'no no no!' about the thing called 'better.' Girl guinea pigs are good, and boys are good too. I am not saying that Pip and me are better than your girl guinea pig friends. No way will I say that thing! I think our friends who we see this day and that day and all the days are our favorite and are the 'best' to us. That makes sense to Teddy. So maybe there is 'best' but not 'better.' I hope you like that answer. Thank you for sending the question!" -- Teddy

"THIS IS PIP NOW, ANSWERING THE QUESTION, AND ALL I WILL SAY IS PIP IS A ROCK STAR. IT IS TRUE. ARE YOUR GIRL GUINEA PIGS ROCK STARS? WELL? ARE THEY? PIP SAVES THE DAY! THE END." -- Pip

Dear Teddy and Pip,

What is your favorite thing?

"Hello, and thank you for the question of what is our favorite thing. This is Teddy speaking now, and I will say first that my favorite thing is not the same as Pip's favorite thing. That is the way it is with us, and I am thinking it is not a surprise to you to hear that. Teddy's favorite thing - besides best friends, because best friends are the best but are not things - is crunchy crunch salad. Mmmmmmm!" -- Teddy

"PIP'S FAVORITE THING IS ROCKING! PIP IS A ROCK STAR, AS YOU KNOW, SO I CANNOT EVEN HELP IT THAT THAT IS MY FAVORITE THING." -- Pip

Dear Molly,

What do you do for Christmas?

"If you read The Bridezilla Who Stole Christmas, you will get a good idea of what Christmas can be like for me, my family, Wally and Amelia, and the guys. That story told about a pretty special Christmas, I guess. I mean, we usually just have a tree and presents and stuff and not all kinds of extra . . . well, I won't spoil the surprise if you haven't read it yet. But anyway, Teddy and Pip totally love Christmas and decorations and lights. They will wear their hats with bells if I ask real nice, and Pip has some really good songs - some of his best ones, I think - about Christmas. The other day, I tried to read them the Grinch story, but they got all upset like they do. Anyway, I hope you and all the best friends out there have a really great Christmas!" -- Molly

Dear Teddy and Pip,

What is your favorite thing to do? What is your favorite color?

"This is Teddy speaking here, and I will answer the question of FAVORITE THING TO DO for all of the best friends, if that is okay with you. Here is the answer for me myself: EAT VEGGIES! BEST OF TIMES!

  • Pip: That one, he likes to sing and rock.
  • Wally: Teaching kids about economics, but also and more favorite is time with Teddy and Pip. Reading time and talking with guinea pigs is a favorite of his.
  • Molly Jane: Snouting or scouting or whatever it is that she does instead of playing with her best friends - who are also Pip and me. She likes also to be with guinea pigs and, for some reason I cannot understand, she likes to spend her times with that bird who lives at her house. I do not like that bird.
  • Amelia: Writing her books, but also best friends stuff with Pip and me, like music time and talking and reading books to us, too." -- Teddy

"THIS IS PIP ANSWERING ABOUT COLOR. COLOR IS NOT A BIGGISH DEAL TO US GUINEA PIGS, BUT FOR YOU, WE WILL SAY ONE TO YOU ANYWAY. I LIKE THE ONE CALLED RED AND ALSO GREEN. MOLLY JANE SAYS THAT MEANS I LIKE CHRISTMAS TIME, AND I DO. I HAVE WRITTEN MANY HIT SINGLES ABOUT THAT JOLLY TIME OF YEAR. I AM A ROCK STAR, AND I LIKE ROCKING AND ROLLING COLORS. TEDDY IS TELLING ME NOW THAT HE LIKES THE COLOR OF GREEN BECAUSE OF VEGGIES LIKE LETTUCE THAT HE LIKES TO EAT. TEDDY IS VERY MUCH LIKING OF EATING. CRUNCHY CRUNCH CRUNCH! MOLLY JANE IS A GIRL WHO LIKES THE COLOR OF PURPLE. WALLY IS LIKING OF BROWN, AND I CANNOT SAY WHY ABOUT THAT. AMELIA IS A LADY WHO LIKES THE BLUE, BUT NOT THE BLUES. SHE DOES NOT ENJOY ROCK AND ROLL MUCH EITHER, BUT WE LOVE HER ANYWAY. THE END!" -- Pip

Dear Teddy and Pip,

Do you like Wally more than Molly Jane?

"No no no! We do not do the 'more' with best friends - no way! We like and love our Wally and our best friend Molly Jane lots and lots, even though they are not the same. Thank you for sending a question to us! Wheek wheek!" -- Teddy

"TEDDY IS RIGHT ON THIS ONE: WE DO NOT LIKE OR LOVE ONE BEST FRIEND MORE THAN OTHERS! WALLY IS GOOD, MOLLY JANE IS GOOD - THAT IS HOW IT IS. OVER AND OUT!" -- Pip

Dear Teddy and Pip,

Do you have a picture or drawing of your beautiful house (cage)?

"We thank you for sending a mail question to us. We like mail and questions. You ask about our house which is the best of times - we are some sorry, friends, but there is no picture to show of it. It is a good house and we think all guinea pigs should have one. Our Wally makes it and it is called 'one of a kind.' But here is the but! The writing person would like to share with you some ideas on that sticky thing called web. She knows of guinea pig friends who have houses like these and they are good good good! There are many many pictures for looking and ideas for best friends to try. Have fun making a best of times house for your many guinea pig friends!" -- Teddy

"HOUSE SHOULD BE BIG WITH ALWAYS CRUNCHY TREATS AND ALSO TV AND MICROPHONES FOR ROCK STARS!" -- Pip

Dear Teddy and Pip,

Do you know when your birthdays are?

"Thank you for asking the question of birthdays! This is Teddy speaking now. The day that I came to be living with my best friend Wally all those days ago is the day we call birthday. That day is also called July 24. It is summer-y and much fun with salad and Beatles albums and reading." -- Teddy

"PIP IS TALKING NOW!! I TOO HAVE A DAY LIKE TEDDY SAYS AND IT IS THE BEST OF TIMES BECAUSE IT IS PIP'S DAY TO HAVE A PARTY ABOUT PIP AND PIP IS ME AND FUN TO BE! THAT DAY IS MAY 4 AND I AM NOT KIDDING ABOUT THAT! THANK YOU FOR ASKING AND HAVE A NICE DAY!" -- Pip

Dear Teddy and Pip,

What type of guinea pigs are you? Do you like dogs at all?

"TYPE?! TYPE?! WHAT ARE YOU ASKING OF US?! WE DO NOT DO THE TYPE. THE HUMAN DOES THAT AND SHE IS SLOW SLOW SLOW AND SO WE FIRE HER MANY TIMES! DOGS ARE SCARY! NO DOGS!" -- Pip

"So sorry. This is Teddy now, speaking reasonably instead of Pip's screaming and screaming. I will answer your questions for you. I asked the question of 'type' to our friend Molly Jane, and her answer to this thing is that we are American. Pip and me are that sort or type. We are from New Jersey and so that is why, I think. We love the USA! And dogs are a thing we have some worry over, ourselfs. They seem too big and have big mouths and teeth and so we are not sure about all that. We do not want to be a mouth-full of a treat for a dog. But we hear stories of dogs that are good and nice and do not eat guinea pigs one bit and so maybe they are some or mostly good. I do not know. Pip and me live with our friends Wally and Amelia, and there are no dogs around us except outside at the place called the neighbor's house, and that dog does not stop by to visit us. I hope that answers your questions. And I am glad glad glad that you are in our club and are a best friend now! Best of times!" -- Teddy

Dear Teddy and Pip,

Why do you call a cell phone a celery phone?

"This is Teddy speaking first of all, and I would like to say to you that it is Pip who says that crazy thing about 'celery phones,' not Teddy. I have talks with that crazy Pip and say to him that it is a 'sell phone' because humans do their shopping sometimes using that thing. Our Wally calls and then pizza food comes when Molly Jane is eating with us. Yep, it is like that sometimes. I will let Pip now try to explain himself about that crunchy mistake. Thank you sending mail to us! We love mail! (Hello to the classroom called E-1!)" -- Teddy

"THIS IS PIP AND I AM NOT CRAZY! 'CELERY PHONE' IS NOT THE WRONG ANSWER, FANS. PIP DOES NOT SAY WRONG THINGS. HE IS A ROCK STAR AND NOW I AM GOING TO WRITE A SONG ABOUT CELERY PHONES - SORRY BUT THAT IS HOW IT IS WITH ROCK STARS. HERE WE GO....

PHONES ARE SMALL

PHONES MAKE HUMANS MAD (SOMETIMES)

PHONES ARE CRUNCHY IF YOU TREAT THEM BAD

PIP LIKES PHONES TO BE THE THING CALLED 'OFF'

PIP SAVED THE DAY, SO DO NOT SCOFF

CELERY IS BETTER THAN PHONES I SAY

TURN OFF ALL THOSE PHONES, HUMANS, AND GO OUT TO PLAY!

BE NICE TO YOUR GUINEA PIGS AND DO NOT MAKE THEM MAD!

THE END!" -- Pip

Dear Teddy,

Does Pip bother you most of the times?

"This is Teddy speaking. Pip is a crazy guinea pig, that is for sure. He can do the bother and then do it some more, but he is a friend to me and so it is confusing. It would be a strange thing for Teddy to not have his Pip pipping around and being noisy and crazy. I hope that is an okay answer to your question." -- Teddy

Dear Mrs. Maddock,

When are you going to write another book of Teddy and Pip?

"Thank you so much for your question. I am so glad you found and are enjoying Teddy and Pip. I have a lot of fun writing the stories and it makes me so happy to hear from readers. There actually is a new book which will be finished very soon (I hope by the end of the month, if not sooner!) Now that you are in the Best Friends Club, look for an email announcing the new book.

This is a list of all my stories so far:

  1. A Tale of Two Guinea Pigs – April 2009

  2. The Bridezilla Who Stole Christmas – November 2009

  3. The Trouble With Max – December 2011

  4. Nubb Trouble – December 2013

  5. The Case of the Halloween Spy – February 2015

Happy reading!" -- Lisa

Dear Molly,

Do you ever get annoyed by Teddy and Pip?

"That is a good question. Here is my answer: if one of the guys says something that makes me feel a little bit annoyed, I look at his little teddy-bear face and remember how amazing it is that he can talk to me, no matter what he says. And then all those annoyed feelings go away. Same with Tweets. He can be annoying when he sings loud in my ear and climbs all over my head and won’t get off and chews on my hair. But he is so cute, so one look at that fuzzy little head and I am a marshmallow. I’m sure you know what that’s like." -- Molly

Dear Mrs. Maddock,

How do Teddy and Pip talk a lot?

"Teddy learned how to talk by listening to his best friend Wally talk. Wally talked to him just like Teddy was a friend. He also learned by sitting in on Economics classes. Pip learned from Teddy and Amelia. If you ask Teddy and Pip, all guinea pigs can talk, they just don't all want to." -- Lisa

Dear Teddy and Pip,

Do you like having adventures so often?

"Adventures are not what we want, but they happen to us more times and more times. What is a guinea pig to do? If we had no adventures, there would be no books or fans, so I suppose that is one thing to say about it." -- Teddy

"PIP LIKES ADVENTURES! I AM A ROCK STAR! The end." -- Pip

Dear Teddy,

Would you ever consider writing a song like Pip?

"If I would write songs, they would not be like how Pip writes songs. He is some crazy and so his songs are too Pip-like. Does that make some sense or no sense? I have not done that thing, but I will try to think of a Teddy-like song just for you, and maybe it will be at the back of the newest new story book. What do you think? Look for that thing and also a thing called a 'dedication' that will be written for you." -- Teddy

Dear Mrs. Maddock,

Why did you decide to become a writer?

"I don't think I really decided. It was more like it was decided for me. The stories were already in my head, ready to be written! I was inspired by my nine-year-old daughter to make them into books so they could be read by kids like you." -- Lisa

Dear Pip,

Why don't you like maps?

"DO NOT SPEAK TO ME ABOUT MAPS! OBJECTION! ASK A DIFFERENT QUESTION!" -- Pip

Dear Teddy,

Do you know a lot about economics since Wally was a professor?

"Mostly the economics is my best friend Wally's thing-a-mah-thing. To me, it makes some sense and no sense. I know it is about money. I don't have any of that stuff." -- Teddy

Dear Mrs. Maddock,

How long does it take to write a Teddy and Pip book?

"Teddy and Pip books take around three months to write, from start to finish - but the first book took even longer!" -- Lisa
